Setting up IMAP/POP on your iPhone IOS11 and IOS13 Articles

Basic configurations:

Incoming and Outgoing mail server: mymail.brinkster.com

Description/UserName: Your full email address IE, john@smith.com

Incoming IMAP port: 143

-With SSL 993

Incoming POP port: 110

        -With SSL 995

Outgoing port: 25 or 2525 if your ISP blocks 25

-With SSL 2525

Common errors are not being able to send (usually port 25 blocked by your local ISP), relay access denied (not adding your email to the "optional" field).  Please follow the setup exactly, do not skip any steps, if it says optional on the phone, but the article says required, do it.

Please Read the entire article, do not skip any step. Some images are just as a sample, enter the information in the article itself.

Setting up your device for a new account (Will have ios11 and 13 Screenshots)

(if you need to edit an account steps will be after under the heading “Editing an existing account”):

Press to select "Settings" from your SpringBoard.

Press to select "Accounts & Passwords" from the "Settings" menu.

Select "Add Account" from the "Accounts & Passwords" menu.

Select "Other".

Select Add Mail Account

-Enter your name (display name):

-Enter your full email in the email field

-Enter your email password (verify it works by logging into https://mymail.brinkster.com first)

-Enter a description for the account (work, personal)

Select Next

Pick either pop3 or imap.  Typically imap is best if you plan on using multiple devices.

Incoming server settings:

Hostname: Mymail.brinkster.com

Username: Your full email address

Password: Email address password

Outgoing  server settings:

Hostname: Mymail.brinkster.com

Username: Your full email address

Password: Email address password (says optional, is required, you will get a "relay denied" error otherwise) and your password in the "Password" field.

Click "Next".

NOTE: If you skip adding the email into the outgoing server username/password field, you WILL get a Relay denied error.

Mail will then check your mail settings.

It will verify your settings and add the email account.

Note:It may take a while then fail stating “account is setup but may not be able to send” or something similar. Press Save or continue, or ok.

If you get any of these errors just hit yes, or OK.  We just need to save the settings so we can edit them as Apple does not allow you to customize the settings when creating the account like android does.

NOTE: If you received any of the above errors, or mail will not send, we need to ensure it saved the correct settings.

Also if you fail to add the username and are getting relay denied error message, follow these steps to add the username and password.

Editing an existing account

For Changing port number if 25 is blocked, or resolving Relay denied error or checking/correcting ports

Now once more press to select "Settings" from your SpringBoard.

Press to select "Accounts & Passwords" from the "Settings" menu.

Select the email account that you have just created.

You can verify the hostname, username and password for the incoming on the next screen if they are not what is listed above.

Scroll down and you see the two options, SMTP and Advanced.  Advanced on this page goes to INCOMING Server Settings for the ports.

To change the incoming port Select "Advanced".

Incoming IMAP port: 143

-With SSL 993

Incoming pop3 port: 110

-With SSL 995

NOTE: If you are having issues with SSL on, turn it off and make sure the port is 110 for pop3, or 143 for imap

You may receive this error below if you use SSL:

Error:

"Secure Connection Failed

The certificate may not be valid."

The ssl certificate is only valid for mymail.brinkster.com.

If you are using something other than mymail.brinkster.com (ie mail.yourdomain.com)

for your server Host Names you will need to change this.

As an alternative, once the account is setup, go into the account settings and disable the use of SSL. Port would then be 110 for pop3 or 143 imap.

Once changed, Select the account name at the top left to go back one screen to the SMTP section

Select SMTP

Click on the Primary mail server, should be called “mymail.brinkster.com”

For hostname, ensure it is “mymail.brinkster.com

Username: Says optional, is required.  Full email, john@smith.com (if you skipped it or get relay denied this is where you fix it).

Password: email password

Same thing with the incoming, if you are having issues with SSL (default port 465) test it by switching to 2525 or turn it off.  Port should be 2525 if the default port 25 is blocked by your local ISP.

Authentication if you click on it should be Password.
